POLICE OFFICER
The Village of DeForest, located in Dane County, Wisconsin, currently encompasses 8.43 square miles with approximately 8,800 residents. The Village was incorporated in 1904 and is located mainly north of the City of Madison, the state capital of Wisconsin.
The Police Department full authorized strength is 17 full time officers, and 3 support staff personnel. The 2010 Annual Report can be found on the village of DeForest website.

POLICE OFFICER DeForest Police Department, DeForest, WI Reason For Announcement: Fill one vacant position and establish an eligibility list for up to two more future vacancies. Salary & Benefits: Full time salary is $43,602 per year starting under the 2011 contract with educational incentives for 90 and 120 credits after 4 years of employment and salary increases to $51,500. Other benefits include Wisconsin Retirement fund, health insurance, life insurance, sick leave, dental, night premium pay, eleven paid holidays, six vacation days after one year, and uniform allowance. Optional benefits include FLEX plan, deferred compensation, long term and short term disability.
Qualifications: U.S. Citizen; 21 years of age; driver’s license; good physical condition; high school diploma; 60 college credits; an applicant who has not met this standard at the time of employment shall meet this standard as a requirement of recertification by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board at the end of his or her fifth year of employment as a law enforcement officer, possess a skill set acquired through employment in the private sector that also possesses maturity, experience and work ethics that are consistent with employment as a Law Enforcement Officer. These employment fields may include but are not limited to social work, educators and healthcare professionals, ability to possess a firearm; no felony convictions; no domestic abuse convictions; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to perform essential functions of this position; ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment.
